Description

This is the router bit our routing jigs are built around — the one that cuts the recessed pocket in the back of a shelf or mantel so a Studlock bracket beds in flush and the finished piece sits tight to the wall. It is a 3/4-inch diameter bit with a 1/4" shank, run to a 5/16-inch depth, matched to the DIY, Ultra, and Mantel routing jigs. One thing to keep straight: this bit routes the recess channel; it does not drill the support-rod holes — that is what the auger bit is for. Drill those holes first, then rout.

Nothing worked & no response to my email

I ordered brackets, a router bit, a jig and router template. The router template was too small for the bracket so we had to cut the template. Then, the jig hole was smaller than the bracket tubes for the wall so we had to make our own jig so the hole would be wider. I then sent a message that I wanted to return the router bit last week and no one has emailed me back. Very disappointed. I watched all the videos and yet, none of the measurements for materials has worked.

Nice to have the right tool

It was great to be able to buy, at a reasonable price, the exact tools needed to prepare the wood to use the ultraShelf brackets

Had to rough up the shaft of the bit a little, it likes to walk on the router. Did the job, but kept slipping in the collet.

disappointed at how long it took one simple item to be shipped. only shipped after I followed up.. originally bout bracket drill guide and router guide. overall disappointed with the whole order as drill guide allowed drill to go at an angle and made installation difficult

router bit

This was the first time I used a router bit, it was easy to use and the mantel mounted to the fireplace perfectly. My wife and I were very happy with the end result. I would definitely recommend the router bit and template for the ultra shelf.

Well worth the money!

I didn't have a 3/4" bit with the guide bushing and this one was a very good price. It worked just fine and is still in tip top shape for future projects.

All in good order.

I had a reasonably good travel through your website. Ordered what I needed and received the shipment in a relatively short time. Everything I expected. Can not expect more. Five stars! Thanks

router bit

the router bit performed beautifully. The router jig however wasn’t the best, it is flimsy and one long edge was cut at an angle.

Poor design for layout

The bracket was fine. Nothing special. Just like all the other brackets out there. The drilling jig was poorly thought out for laying out accurately. The drilling jig should be the width of the mortice so it automatically centers itself. Also the drilling jig was not completely straight meaning the holes were piloted at a light angle making it very difficult to slide the mantle on the jig. The Router jig came broken in 5 pieces. (immediately refunded). Yet to find a good floating shelf company.

good product

Good. Take your time laying out holes, bit of tight tolerance. The template for routing was broken, but able to glue back together. Overall pleased. Thanks

No quality control

No quality controlWe run a small custom wood shop. We have ordered from ultra shelf 3 times. Each time the products have either been machines wrong , made incorrectly, or destroyed in shipping due to poor packaging.

Poor quality

The bracket itself seems well designed and well made. However, the jig is terrible. The first one came in about 8 pieces. Customer service was excellent and shipped another one immediately. The second one came broken in 2 places. I attempted to use it, but because the jig was broken, the shape slightly changed and therefore all the measurements were off. As a result, I ruined the live edge shelf piece that I purchased. The drill guides also have no way to be centered exactly within the jig, so you run the risk of the drilled holes being off. I would not purchase this product again, nor would I recommend it due to the terrible quality and design of the jig.

Router bit works great

I did a test cut in a 2x4 today and it went great. The cut was smooth and the jig made the whole thing pretty simple. The bit was sharp and delivered a very clean cut.

Perfect little router bit

Bearing broke during use and damaged the solid 8/4 oak ii was using. Ended up not using any of the ultra shelfs system and made up my own brackets. Had trouble with all of it and I am a pro contractor. Very disappointed.

Router bit is cheap

The set **** on the retaining collar would not stay put. Luckily it only ruined the plywood templates I made from the from the ultrashelf template I bought. It would slip and cause vibration at the end of nearly every cut. We even tried some blue loctite on the set ****. I eventually gave up, and ordered a whitesides bit.

Router Bit

Works great, probably best used with a plunge router.
