Ultra Routing Jig for UltraBrackets

Description

This is the template that lets a thicker UltraBracket shelf sit truly flush to the wall. Used with a router, it guides a clean, straight recess into the back of your shelf so the Studlock UltraBracket beds into the wood instead of holding the shelf off the wall — no gap behind it. It is cut from half-inch plywood, sized to match your UltraBracket (10 to 70 inches, matched to your shelf length), and comes with two wood screws to hold it to the shelf while you work. Use a 3/4-inch by 5/16-inch router bit (we sell one if you need it), and mind the order of operations: drill the support-rod holes first, then rout — the drilling guide will not fit once the recess is cut.

very useful

This jig (and proper router bit) makes this process very straight forward. The only challenge is if your board isn't perfectly flat and level then your centerline can be tough to set. Once you get all your measurements and this jig set on the board, then it's pretty easy (if you are comfortable with a handheld router). I can't imagine trying to install these brackets without this jig.

Thinner than needed. Routing will cause damage. So you may need more than one.

T
Thurman

Thinner than they should be. Especially if you have multiple shelves.

T
Thurman

Should be thicker if you have more than one shelf to route.

T
Thurman

Should be thicker for more passes and additional shelves.

Great Product!

Overall design of this product is superb. Directions were extremely clear. I bought the hardware only and fit up (2) 2” x 18” live edge white oak shelves. They look excellent! I will definitely order again in the future.

Routing jig, drill jig and drill bit review

I liked the instructions on how to measure the routing jig to my walnut shelf. When I began drilling, the wood flakes would bind up in the drill bit and I would vacuum out the hole and any wood flakes. Once we drilled out the three holes, and the drill bit was maxed out we stopped drilling. We tried to insert the Ultrashelf but it stuck out like 3-4 inches. The drill bit supplied is not long enough to make the holes deep enough for the Ultrashelf to sit flush, it is 3-4" away from where it needs to be. On your website, you suggest don't purchase other Auger drill bit because they could be a different size, but I don't see any other option on your site? Not sure why you don't offer longer auger bits, we ordered an 8" Ultrashelf and need a 10" bit.I think my next time, I will order these completely build and stained by your team. By the time we have milled down the rough cut 2" Walnut to the desired thickness, routed in the back part for the Ultrashelf, drilled the holes(set up and aligning them must be perfect), finishing the wood, then staining the wood, it is a fun project but as a business owner I would prefer to just get a finished product. Look forward to ordering a finished shelf and hopefully press the easy button.

Absolute trash. This jig ruined my shelf and walls.

I bought the 70" version of this jig and used the drilling jig to drill the holes for use with the ultra bracket. The alignment markers for the holes walked off-center by a 1/16" with each hole. I thought this would just ensure a snug fit. Instead, I spent 20 minutes with a mini sledgehammer trying to persuade my shelf into position and I still have 2" left to go and it refuses to move further. I've most likely ruined a $600 butcher block that I spent hours finishing as a result and I still have to deal with repairing the drywall around the shelf. All of this is assuming I can get the shelf back off of the wall.As a routing jig, it's barely passable. It's way too flimsy to provide a steady guide so the slot is now oversized.

Product was fine, had it actually arrived with initial order

The jig was fine. Would have been great if it was actually shipped with the brackets when ordered everything. Delayed the project for over a week.

Routing jigs

I have purchased 4 different sizes of jigs so far...They work well but could be better… The longer ones tend to bow out in the center area especially when cutting into hardwoods…My recommendation would be a tougher material or a much thicker piece of same material...

ultra shelf routing jig

The jig/template worked great in the short lengths but in the long lengths the template should be made with a stiffer material. There is significant flex in the 1/2" mdf of the jig which can be compensated for with careful clamping but it is not ideal. Overall good experience with that one caveat.

Great product Bad process

Hi, I do like your products but I also had some issues with ordering your product on line.My order was 2 ultra brackets - 34"/8", Ultra Auger Bit, Ultra drilling Jig, Ultra Routing Jig, and Router Bit.Two issues.#1 - I ordered two 34 inch bracket 34"/8" but I received a 10" routing jig.#2 - I ordered a Auger bit that says 11/32 x 8" even though my order paperwork say 7 inches. So even if I did order an 8" Auger bit it would have been to small. You need at least a 9" Auger bit to drill the holes required for the 34" / 8" bracket. It would be great if you would make sure all of the accessories needed to install the ordered bracket would be the correct size/item needed for the bracket ordered because if you don't pay attention on what you order these errors could accure. This has delayed my project and I also spent more time to find the correct tools needed. I've also had a hard time getting someone on the phone for help. I have left messages but I am not getting return calls. So even though I like your products it would be nice if you would address these issues.V/R,Acacio

Jig worked well

Nice design, easy instructions for use & good results produced. The jig was packaged along with several shelf mounting brackets and arrived with a small crack, but worked fine nonetheless.

Waste of money

The video directions provided are misleading (the drilling jig used in the demonstration is not the one that is being sold, so if you route first then drill, your drilling jig is useless) and will result in damaging the shelf. Ultra shelf claims they are aware of this but has left this video on their website. They offered no reimbursement of any sort.
